ABOUT US

In 1976, Lee Ora Pedrick acquired the 11-acre Black Bart’s Recreational Vehicle Park at 2760 East Butler Avenue in Flagstaff. The building that is now the restaurant was then a recreational facility for the park. In 1979, the Pedricks decided to open a steakhouse utilizing the talents of NAU students as singing servers to entertain customers. The students’ response was so great that plans were immediately formulated to build and open the adjoining Old West Theatre. where the Black Bart’s Vaudeville Show Old West Melodrama was produced for 11 years, through the summer of 1990.

In 1991, it was decided to discontinue the Old West Theatre and replace it with a more comprehensive Musical Revue that continues today. The wall between the steakhouse and the theatre was removed, creating a much larger restaurant which provided better facilities for a greater number of people to enjoy our unique blend of food and entertainment.

On January 2nd, 1992, a tragic plane crash claimed the lives of Lee Ora Pedrick.

Black Bart’s Steakhouse has continued operation with its ownership in the hands of the Pedrick Family Trust, and carries on its tradition of great food and entertainment in the same manner Lee Ora designed. It remains our goal to create a living memorial to their memories and dedication.

Charles E. Boles

Charles E. Boles was born Charles Earl Bowles, but later changed the spelling of his name to “Boles.” He was also known as Charles Bolton or C.E. Bolton, but was, of course, best known as Black Bart or Black Bart the Po8. He is known for robbing Wells Fargo stagecoaches in northern California and southern Oregon from 1875 to 1883.

Black Bart robbed only Wells Fargo stagecoaches. Masked, he would jump in front of the coach, point a 12 gauge shotgun at the driver, and demand the strong box in a deep, resonant voice. He never fired a shot, never hurt anyone, and never robbed the passengers in the coach. After his capture in November 1883, it was discovered he never even loaded the gun.

After being captured, Bart was sentenced to 6 years in San Quentin prison, but was released after 4 for good behavior. Upon his release, Bart was asked if he’d go back to robbing stagecoaches. Bart said he was through with crime.

Bart then returned to San Francisco, where he lived for a month, then disappeared without a trace in February 1888.

Although we live in California’s Central Valley, we visit Flagstaff to see family each year. By far, my favorite thing to do in Flagstaff is have dinner at Black Bart’s.

The main attraction is the music, of course. I love that the servers all sound stage-ready. (We asked once- they have to audition for the job as well as interview!) They perform songs from musicals, and will even take requests. The music is amazing, but the food is superb as well. Salads are fresh and crispy, biscuits are served hot with honey cinnamon butter, and the main courses are served to order. The wait staff are friends and attentive, even though they sing songs in stern service. Come and stay awhile- you’ll love it.

It is located inside an RV park and we almost missed the turn but I’m so glad we made it. They have live entertainment by all of the servers. I guess it’s a prerequisite that they have to audition for the job. It has a western rustic vibe and the menu was simple so they could specialize in their steaks. I ordered a 12 oz prime rib and it came out at about a 15 or 16 oz cut. It was amazing. The service was really great too. Taylor was our server and Cameron was his helper for the evening. They were on top of everything and our cups were never half empty. If you have a chance to stop here you won’t regret it.

I LOVE this place. I drove 534 miles to get here today (ok yeah Im a driver by trade but still) and was delighted to find that Stacy still works here. She took my request to sing “Climb Every Mountain” and was awesome as ever.
Steak and ribs are to die for.

This place is nothing short of a hidden gem! It is literally hidden. The restaurant is located inside of an RV park. It seems like a strange location but once you’re in the restaurant you completely forget about where you are. The decor was warm and pleasant. There is a stage where the staff performs surprisingly good renditions of a wide range of music (mostly Disney songs while I was there). Certainly nice entertainment to have along with dinner. Speaking of dinner, it was as fantastic as I had hoped. The menu was fairly simple but should have enough options to satisfy most patrons. There were at least 5 different items on the menu that I would have ordered. I decided the go with the special for the night, a 16oz bone-in ribeye. Every meal comes with a side salad and a side. The steak was cooked to perfect medium as I requested. My buddies had bbq chicken and a rack of ribs. I was able to get a taste of both dishes and they were delightful; succulent, tender and perfectly seasoned. Dinner also included complementary sourdough biscuits with maple cinnamon butter, definitely a nice touch. The overall experience was incredible. Our waitress was knowledgable, friendly and put in a great performance singing! This place certainly deserves numerous visits anytime you find yourself in Flagstaff!

Q. Logic Pro X on Macbook Air 13″?

Hello, I am going to buy a Macbook at some point in the next couple of weeks for college work, primarily office processing and music production with Logic Pro X.

Hello, I am going to buy a Macbook at some point in the next couple of weeks for college work, primarily office processing and music production with Logic Pro X.

The Macbook Air 13″ looks really good but will it be able to cope with Logic Pro X? I would buy the RAM and Processing upgrades (no change to SSD capacity as I have portable hard drives). Either that or a Macbook Retina 13″ as standard, no upgrades.

I have an iMac at home for all the major power multitasking things, I just need a portable option to take with me. If an upgraded Air can do those tasks then I prefer that option, as much as the screen is nice on the Retina I’m not a film buff so it doesn’t matter. How does the i5 in the Retina compare to the i7 in the Air.

Answers are much appreciated, thank you very much.

What follows is simply a personal opinion. and so others may disagree.

A Macbook Air, while very good for the purpose it is designed for. (A light. efficient, portable notebook type device) it is not really suitable for use with a very resource demanding application such as Logic Pro. You could use it, yes. but depending on how complex your arrangements are. number of tracks. type of plugins. number of audio tracks and so on. you would likely soon run into it’s limitations.

I would suggest you put your money into a Macbook Pro via Apple’s Refurb store. (Same warranty etc. as new but usually about 20-30% cheaper). get as fast a i7 as you can. along with 16GB of Ram. and you should be much better off..

The following site is extremely useful at tracking down which refurb units are available in your country.

Note: I haven’t bought a full priced Apple product in a loog time. having bough my last 9 Macs, iPads and other sundry things like Airport Extremes. via the refurb store and frankly, you would never know they were refurbed. as Apple pay really good attention to detail and testing of such units before reselling them. plus, as i said earlier. you have the exact same warranties as new models along with whatever Applecare you may choose to buy too. For me it’s a no brainer to buy refurb. if the gear is available.

I use a 2012 Macbook Air 13″ with Logic Pro X without any problems (1.8, 4GB, 128GB SSD). However my usage is pretty basic: 10-20 tracks of audio with 2-3 plugins each and no synths or virtual instruments. I use an external display when in my studio.

I recorded my whole album on this machine using a Tascam US-1800 via USB.

Compared to my father-in-laws iMac (3.4, 8GB, 256GB SSD) that I occasionally use, the Macbook Air is slower regarding project loading/saving/bouncing. But on both machines, Logic Pro runs exactly the same. No drop outs, no clipping or glitches.

I can say for 100% certainty that my usage of Logic on the Macbook Air does work without any problems, performance wise. I spent two weeks on a cruise ship and used my Macbook to mix and arrange some tracks while on battery power, using headphones, without any problems whatsoever.

That being said, if you are seriously going to use Logic for professional production, then in my opinion a Macbook Pro would be better for the following reasons:

Since, in the real production world, time is money, and a faster computer is money well spent. You sacrifice portability for power with the Macbook Pro, but if you are making money on your projects, then portability is less of a concern. Honestly if you were going to be professionally producing music I would use your iMac instead. If you are going to run many virtual instruments or synths, then the Macbook Air would possibly not be powerful enough.

However in my case, I use the Macbook Air for all my tasks (office/work/school/music) and I have not had a situation where I was thinking “geez this computer is slowing me down”.

Regarding the i5 vs i7. Thousands of opinions exist on this debate. In my opinion, the real world difference is not worth the $. You said that you have external hard drives for more space. I would spend the $200 i7 upgrade money on a larger internal SSD. I can tell from personal experience that my 128GB SSD is way to small. Some might argue that the i7 would be better for Logic regarding the usage of plugins, synths, etc. My counter is that a Macbook Pro would be better, not an i7 Macbook Air. I would not buy an i7 Macbook Air if you need more power; buy a Macbook Pro, or iMac, or MacPro. The real world difference between the i5 and i7 on a Macbook Air is not worth the money. Save that $200-300 and buy the Macbook Pro with it.

Again, small projects like mine (1-5GB in size) load reasonably fast (5-20 seconds) and save just as fast. If you have many tracks, VIs or synths or plugins, then you are justified buying a much faster machine like the Macbook Pro. For me, I wanted lightweight and portability.

If i were to “do it over again” I would STILL buy the Macbook Air, except with 8GB RAM and a larger SSD. And I only want more RAM because I use VirtualBox for running Windows and Linux in a VM. But I made a mistake by not spending extra money on a larger SSD. That would be the only thing I would change. Using external HDD works, but it is definitely slower, and that is something you will notice. My next laptop will be a Macbook Air (or the equivalent) with as much on board storage as possible. The baseline CPU and RAM will be “good enough” for my music projects.

Good luck in your musical endeavors. Just remember that its the music that counts, not on what kind of machine you record it on.

May 6, 2015 3:45 PM

How are you doing. hope you doing good.

well I felt good after reading your experience about Macbook air 13″ 128GB with 8GB RAM

cos I am using the same because i didn’t have a good budget for pro or other space macs. actually i wanted to learn music so i collected money and chose to buy my dream MacBook air.

but after downloading all loops and required sounds for garageban, i am left with only 87GB of space in my MACBOOK AIR. so I wanted to know..

is that enough for me to create music and recording. with 87GB of space and that won’t effect my MacBook air.

coz I got dishearten that I am lacking of space and took wrong decision to buy MacBook air 13″ 128GB space..

hope you understood what do i want to ask.

Oct 18, 2016 10:07 AM

HI, I have macbook pro retina 15 inch maxed out with Flash storage and connected to a Thunderbolt 27 display.

I Also have a 13″ macbook air, maxed out i7 with 8gb ram, also with Flash storage.

both seem to handle Logic Pro x equally well! I have had no problems running 40+ tracks with plugins.

the 15″ macbook pro is a nicer screen, but makes no difference regarding Logic!

hope this helps a bit!

I have a MacBookPro 13″ 2011, i5 and I can run LogicX no problem.

Key is to have enough RAM and a fast hard drive. I have 16GB and a 1TB SSD.

If your arrangement gets complex you can work around it by freezing tracks. For this to be effective make sure that a lot of effects are in the track, so that their processing demands can be frozen too.

Signs Symptoms

Symptoms that signal the onset of dementia are usually subtle and may not be noticeable for a number of years. In fact, earlier signs usually are identified in retrospect, and often by someone other than the patient. Most people think of memory loss as the central symptom in dementia. While most dementias affect memory, some forms of dementia do not initially involve memory loss. Other areas that may be affected include language, perceptual skills, reasoning, and personality. This is especially true in individuals whose symptoms begin before age 65.

Ten Warning Symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

1. Memory Loss That Affects Job Skills It’s normal to occasionally forget assignments, colleagues’ names, or a business associate’s telephone number and remember them later. Those with a dementia, such as Alzheimer’s disease, may forget things more often and not remember them later.

2. Difficulty Performing Familiar Tasks Busy people can be so distracted from time to time that they may leave the carrots on the stove and only remember to serve them at the end of the meal. People with Alzheimer’s disease could prepare a meal and not only forget to serve it but also forget they made it.

3. Problems with Language Everyone has trouble finding the right word sometimes, but a person with Alzheimer’s disease may forget simple words or substitute inappropriate words, making his or her sentence incomprehensible.

4. Disorientation of Time and Place It’s normal to forget the day of the week or your destination for a moment. But people with Alzheimer’s disease can become lost on their own street, not knowing where they are, how they got there or how to get back home.

5. Poor or Impaired Judgment People can become so immersed in an activity that they temporarily forget the child they’re watching. People with Alzheimer’s disease could forget entirely the child under their care. They also may dress inappropriately, wearing several shirts or blouses.

6. Problems with Abstract Thinking Balancing a checkbook may be disconcerting when the task is more complicated than usual. Someone with Alzheimer’s disease could forget completely what the numbers are and what needs to be done with them.

7. Misplacing Things Anyone can temporarily misplace a wallet or keys. A person with Alzheimer’s disease may put things in inappropriate places: an iron in the freezer, or a wristwatch in the sugar bowl.

8. Changes in Mood or Behavior Everyone becomes sad or moody occasionally. Someone with Alzheimer’s disease can exhibit rapid mood swings (from calm to tears to anger) for no apparent reason.

9. Changes in Personality People’s personalities ordinarily change somewhat with age. But a person with Alzheimer’s disease can show drastic personality changes, becoming extremely confused, suspicious, or fearful.

10. Loss of Initiative It’s normal to tire of housework, business activities, or social obligations, but most people regain their initiative. The person with Alzheimer’s disease may become very passive and require cues and prompting to become involved.

[These warning signs were taken from publications of the National Alzheimer’s Association.]

    June 3, 2017 Archbishop William E. Lori

God’s Son became one of us and died on the Cross to restore our relationship to the Father, undermined by sin. And, as Pope Francis teaches, “From the immense gift of love which is Jesus’ death on the Cross, the Holy Spirit has been poured out on humanity like a vast torrent of grace.”

    June 3, 2017 Archbishop William E. Lori

Through the Spirit, we share in the unique Son-ship of Christ and for that reason we claim God as our Father and as members of his family, the Church, we experience his goodness and mercy –the fullness of life and love for which our human spirit longs.

    May 28, 2017 Archbishop William E. Lori

The Risen Lord is sending us on mission, a mission of evangelization. Even if we don’t feel quite prepared for it, not quite properly formed, doubtful about our chances of success, hesitant to engage others about the faith, the Lord is telling us, as he told the Apostles, “You will be my witnesses. to the ends of the earth.”

    May 27, 2017 Archbishop William E. Lori

As deacons, and later, God willing, as priests, I urge to build on what you’ve been given. Ensure that every day includes Holy Mass, the Breviary, a Holy Hour, and the Rosary. Punctuate your day with prayer, with meditation, and with praise.

    May 25, 2017 Archbishop William E. Lori

Let us ask St. Bede to pray for us that our lives might be marked as his was by the love of learning and the desire for God.

    Mission

As disciples of Jesus our mission is:
Evangelization: to evangelize ourselves, our families, our parish and local communities, and our world.
Liturgy: to celebrate our faith with joy through vibrant and prayerful worship.
Education: to educate and become educated in the truths of the Gospel and in the formation of conscience.
Service: to reach out in love and service to those in need.
Stewardship: to develop the material, financial and human resources of the Church and to manage them as faithful stewards.

School bus driver in fatal accident graduated from Brainerd

The Woodmore Elementary school bus driver, Johnthony Walker, 24, graduated from Brainerd High School, according to school officials.

He remains in custody on $107,500 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 29.

The route Walker was driving Monday was his regular route, according to officials.

“The defendant was traveling at a high speed on Talley Road, which is a narrow winding road,” the affidavit states.

Walker lost control of the bus and swerved off of the roadway to the right, striking an elevated driveway and mailbox. He then swerved to the left and the bus began to overturn, hitting a telephone pole and a tree, the affidavit states.

Additional charges may be brought against Walker as the investigation continues, said Chattanooga Police Chief Fred Fletcher said at a press conference last night. Walker has no prior convictions in Hamilton County.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and the Chattanooga Fire Department was involved in extricating victims who were trapped on the bus.

The Hamilton County Department of Education confirmed there were 37 Woodmore Elementary students on board the bus. Their grades range from kindergarten to fifth.

Of the students involved in the crash there were five confirmed fatalities, six critically injured, six admitted to hospitals but not critically injured and 20 treated and released by local hospitals, according to police.

Three of the students killed were in fourth grade, one was in first grade and another in kindergarten, according to Hamilton County Schools Interim Superintendent Kirk Kelly.

Hamilton County Schools contracts its busing services with Durham School Services, one of the nation s largest suppliers of school bus services. In Hamilton County, Durham operated about 240 of the district s 300-350 buses. The others are operated by independent contractors.

    Walker worked for Durham.

Durham has not returned multiple requests for comment.
