Balinese Garden Design Ideas
Create a Balinese Garden Landscape Design Tropical Balinese garden Ideas, tips and photos. Inspiration for your balinese landscaping. Balinese landscape plants, balinese garden design ideas and plans. Balinese style gardens evoke a sense of the exotic, a mysterious lush glossy landscape paradise. Often people want to create a bali garden look and feel after a holiday to a warm climate such as Bali or Thailand, and why not create a resort style garden at home! But before you start your Balinese landscape plans, here are a few landscape design secrets to achieving a tropical balinese garden design;

Garden Art and Sculptures

Balinese style gardens are usually filled with all sorts of typical Balinese garden art and sculptures. From stone gates, to statues of gods, timber lanterns, pebbles and stone stepping stones pathways. Adding some of the above elements will instantly give your garden a balinese feel.

Colour in a Balinese garden can be achieved through several methods. Foliage colour is most important, think big bold colourful plants such as cordylines, flaxes, gingers, heliconias and crotons. Foliage colour is important because it is permanent, as opposed to tropical flowering plants which come and go. Clump your plants to achieve bold displays of foliage colour. Balinese gardens use loads of balinese plants to achieve bold displays of colour from both foliage and flowers.

Colour in the garden can also be highlighted by using various landscaping materials of different forms, textures and colours, such as light coloured pebbles and dark paver stepping stones.

A balinese pavilion or hut will very quickly give your garden a balinese look. These huts are readily available in DIY kits that are simple to put together and relatively cheap.

Ensure that your landscape design is an open, free form style. Avoid ridge straight lines and formal hedges. Try and add contrasting clumps of foliage to create informal blocks of colour. Water is often used in tropical garden designs, a simple pond of water feature can transform a garden space. Winding, flowing pathways and garden rooms add a sense of intrigue to a balinese gardens. Pathways are often made up of natural stepping stones to give an added rustic feel.

Balinese gardens need lots of balinese plants! Add layers in your garden design. Nice tall trees, bamboos or palms to give height to the garden and create an intimate canopy overhead, as well as sheltering some of the understory plants and ground covers;

Hawaiian hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis)
Vireya rhododendron (Vireya cultivars)
Crab’s claw (Heliconia angusta cultivars)
Fijian fire plant (Acalypha wilkesiana)
Giant elephant’s ears/giant taro (Alocasia macrorrhiza)
Elephant’s ears (Alocasia x amazonica)
Prayer plant (Maranta leuconeura ‘Kerchoviana’)
Zebra plant (Calathea zebrina)
Abyssinian banana (Ensete ventricosum)
Crotons (Codiaeum variegatum)
Dancing ladies (Oncidium varicosum)

Sustainable Energy Management

Bachelor of Science

The Sustainable Energy Management (SEM) program is structured to introduce students to a wide range of energy markets and resources (fossil fuels, electricity, renewable and sustainable energy resources) while maintaining substantial flexibility for student-centered learning in understanding and managing energy systems.

The Sustainable Energy Management program is based on a vision that combines professional competency in management skills with a strong foundation in the social and biophysical sciences. The study of responsible energy resources use, and the development of sustainable sources of energy, has become a critical national and global issue. Energy issues include concerns about the quality and quantity of the different potential resources, energy security, and potential impacts of each on the environment and human health. It is essential that our society and energy professionals gain an understanding of production and conversion of different forms of energy, their current and future supplies, the markets and policy mechanisms that regulate their supply, and the associated impacts on the environment for each fuel.

Jobs in Renewable Energy

Students interested in this program typically have a strong interest in energy use and the impacts that has on our natural resources and environments. This major will expose students to views from a variety of disciplines as they wrestle with a wide array of issues related to current and future energy supply and use. Students likely have an interest in exploring sustainable uses of energy and resources and want to develop the professional knowledge and skills needed to conserve, steward and manage energy resources and the environment. ESF provides a wide variety of opportunities to meet student needs utilizing a significant number of sustainable and renewable energy demonstration projects, significant research in energy topics, and ESF s adoption of energy efficient and renewable energy projects to make the College carbon neutral by 2015. Experiential field learning is combined with learning concepts and skills in the classroom and laboratory on ESF’s Syracuse campus.

The Sustainable Energy Management program develops professional skills that employers tell us are the most important traits they look for in new employees. These traits are developed through a broad base of classes in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities, communication, and quantitative and qualitative problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The majority of work scheduled during the first two years (lower division) is in these areas. This major prepares students to be well-rounded managers in the energy field and prepares them with a foundation for future graduate degree work. Energy resource management offers a wide variety of employment opportunities. Graduates work for public agencies, private industry, and nonprofit organizations.

Showroom guidelines for China expansion

Promoting premium parquet and laminate floors in a saturated market.

Swedish-based and world leading manufacturer of flooring solution, Pergo enters China through local distributors. It needed a strong yet elegant way to display all its offering: premium parquet and laminate floors. The entire design solution needed to be scalable and flexible enough to be adapted locally by independent reseller.
Final result is an extremly well organised space, providing maximum exposure for all Pergo s solutions. Following this design, several showrooms has been opened across China providing a consistent brand experience to all visitors and establishing a strong first foothold for the company in the Chinese market.

Retail Space for Premium European tableware

How to promote equally and within a common space, various brands with different tonality and spirit?

The challenge was to expose the various premium brands in a common space and highlight the identity of each brand. Furthermore, we needed to allow for future capability to add or remove any of these brands without the general atmosphere of the store being affected.

Over 40 shops and counters have been upgraded to this new design.

New Sport Centre

How to promote a highly ranked unknown Chinese middle school to international standards?

The Affiliated High School of Shanxi University (SDFZ) is one of the top 10 Chinese middle schools; established in 1955 by the Red Army, the school was previously a formation centre for the Communist Party.

Back in 2012, we helped SDFZ redefine their communication strategy and VI guidelines. Following this foundation work we cooperated again with SDFZ to design their new sport centre: a massive 3 floors stadium of 5,600sqm.
Stadium halls were decorated with geometrical Sports and Art figures. All were made of steel sheets and steel frame filled with colourful acrylic to emphasise the sprit of SDFZ which focuses on the development of student’s morality, intelligence, physical abilities, art and handwork skills.
In the indoor stadium (2nd floor), we merged the traditional Chinese calligraphy with modern graffiti style. Again, we play with strong visual and use a set of bright colours to motivate students.

Lifestyle retail space

Respect Fissler brand, use its history and develop an emotional space where people feel at ease to discover and purchase.

Fissler Studio (250sqm) boasts a variety of other premium European brands that complete Fissler’s kitchenware offering.

We divided Fissler Studio like a house, providing various demonstration areas where customers can experience new cooking tips, test wine and/or premium olive oil.

This concept store is now being used as the retail guidelines for all new Fissler stores throughout China.

Fresh historical school revamping

Revamp the entire school tonality without losing its historical tracks.

This started as a massive outdoor branding project for QiXian school, in Shanxi province. We took our inspiration from the school’s history and its key role during the communist revolution. The branding rehaul unfolds into a full landscape design project as we redesigned all their recreational parks, educational sculptures, and sport areas.

Our final solution was visually striking and cost effective. We mixed bright colours and ink drawings to rejuvenate communist spirit into a modern realm.

Oil Equipment Museum

Jereh indoor and outdoor museum

We helped to conceptualize and visualize Jereh’s new headquarters located in Beijing. The main buildings highlight Jereh’s extensive knowledge in underground drilling; the connection between outdoor and indoor spaces is a visual clean cut of the building’s volume with the indoor space also being used as VIP meeting area.

Leveraging funeral environment

LongShanYuan Cemetery needed some support to leverage its full scope of services: from the funeral ceremony to the management of tombs.

We worked closely with their team to refine the outdoor layout, interior design and visual communication. Park areas provided improved privacy zones and a peaceful environment, allowing mourners to go through their difficult times in a more serene setting.

O2O strategy to leverage brand value

How to develop online presence and sales without losing your core values ?

Back in October 2014, we helped Fissler China to set-up and run their first TMall store. In one month time, we shoot over 150 products (around 2000 pictures in high quality including post-production. ) and set-up the entire back-end of their online store. Through monthly promotions -around 2 per month- on TMall, we achieved tremendous sales results online (can’t disclose the numbers here for obvious reasons). After only 12 month, Fissler China is now one of the top players online which support strongly his offline presence and services.

Healthy drink for better lifestyle

Healthy drinks vs Energy drinks

Well established in China since 2004, ICHIMore is facing fierce competition from many energy drink producers. To stand out and avoid market loss, we have shifted the brand on a different market positioning with less competitors and where it can expand much easily its range of healthy products.

The full VI (corporate and marketing parts) was developed within 5 months and we are now implementing the new VI tonality into their full product range.

All products will be released this April 2016! Stay alert!

The ideal finish for any renovation

Australian- based company Gooden Industries approached us to help redesign the cover plate of their electrical switches; with only 3 models available since the 90’s, the Australian and New Zealand markets were starved for variety.

From 2D concept to full 3D surface development, we provided 18 models following a consistent design language and surface finishes.

Product and brand development for music lovers.

The Shenzen -based company approached us to develop a new design language for their latest line of headsets.

We created and developed the entire identity of the new line: from naming to logo development and web site structure.

The work is still in progress, to know more about this project please contact us.

“Misha is an amazing designer. She was able to capture everything that I was looking for and exceeded my expectations in her design. Misha has a great personality, making the experience of the renovations a lot of fun despite all of the hard work that was required to get the job done. I would highly recommend Misha to anyone looking to make their space as amazing as mine turned out!”

“Thanks to Misha our once dreary and boring master bedroom is now a truly amazing oasis. Bringing a unique design point of view, we had no idea how spectacular a new accordion glass door and 70 re-claimed shutters on our ceiling, juxtaposed with a clean and modern chandelier, would create such a magical retreat. Her color choices not only worked well in the room but also compliments the colors that we already had in the home, leaving a cohesive imprint (savings from not having to do more updates!) Everyday we feel we are waking up, or going to bed, in a charming boutique hotel suite – best investment we have made in our home”.

Wendy & James Brown

We had a vision for our home but no time or energy to do anything about it. Misha listened, asked a few questions. and NAILED it! She is totally without ego, and obviously extremely gifted at what she does. We are so thrilled with the outcome, and everyone that sees our place is in awe. Highly recommend. Well done, Misha and THANK YOU!

Best Ideas in Landscape Edging

The art of landscape gardening requires the use of select principles in the creation of a beautiful outdoor space. Whether it be an estate, neighborhood development or small cottage, thought and planning are the first step in producing a picturesque garden scene.

Even a small backyard garden design is worthy of thought and study just as is any larger landscaping layout. As the small yard is simply a landscape in miniature, the same principles are relevant in its successful development. Superior designed landscape borders are a noticeable outdoor design element, therefore a necessary inclusion in any landscape garden environment. You can commence the design of eye-catching landscape edging by utilizing free landscape design software.

The central principles to be followed in designing lawn edging is the value of unity and simplicity in your overall landscaping design. An exceptionally designed landscape border edging is a noticeable asset that will dramatically enhance any home landscape environment. Any lawn edging designs or bit of landscape edging must exhibit unity as a primary necessity. The garden edging must appear to the eye as a restful single mass of natural planting, well-proportioned and beautiful in form, color and texture. It must display just enough variety to make the outdoor landscape a balanced whole.

Landscape edging borders should not be a stiff monotonous hedge of only one variety in the backyard landscape design. Neither should the edging border be a jumbled collection of fifty-one varieties of plants, perhaps each in itself beautiful, but when thrown in a cluster together, staggeringly clashing. Landscape edging should convey an impression of unity, simplicity and yet variety, although it is not necessary to plant numerous selections of shrubs to make the garden composition complete.

Upon examination, how many backyard landscape designs are truly harmonious? How many have neat landscaping borders that can be related to the art of garden design? Most landscape edging ideas feature a straight hedge or two with little more interest than the monotonous green of traditional evergreen shrubs. The Better Homes and Gardens online garden planner lets you sketch out your favorite lawn and garden edging ideas while displaying the form, skyline, foreground, blending of the foliage textures, and their unison with the lawn.

A variety of lawn edging shrubs can be introduced in a garden border such as Persian lilac, common lilac, Japanese barberry, Regel’s privet, fragrant sumac, English privet and bush honeysuckle. How to install edging is important although all these shrubs are hardy and widely adapted as to growing region and can be classed as exceptional shrubs for the small landscape garden. Better Homes and Gardens free landscape design software includes a library of trees, plantings and shrubs that can be organized on a computer or tablet, then saved for future reference or printed out. The drag and drop feature of the garden planner allows for the inclusion of garden structures such as decks, patios and sheds in your landscape design plan.

Landscape edging border ideas illustrate the essential elements in the art of planting a manicured lawn design. In designing or laying out the lawn edging, mere planting alone will not be sufficient. It is easy enough to set out a row of plants according to the instruction tag, but it is another matter to create a real picture of landscaping borders. In actual practice, the success of such planting depends upon the knowledge of the plant materials, their texture, their form, seasonal bloom, color of flowers, summer and autumn foliage, winter appearance, etc. Such knowledge is essential to the creation of an outdoor living space, whether in the form of formal garden estates or in the backyard garden.

Whether you are a landscape architect or a weekend gardener, there is landscape design software made for you. The Audubon mobile field guide is a popular software app where garden devotees can observe, identify, and share their observations and pictures of trees, plants and flowers. Detailed data for 728 species with comprehensive descriptions of every species, with authoritative information on appearance and habitat are featured in this horticultural app.

Generally speaking, in a lawn edging border the grouping of several shrubs of each species is more effective than scattering the individual plantings randomly. Accumulative landscaping effects are preferable to the spotty appearance produced by indiscriminate arrangements. With the inclusion of casual bunches of hardy garden flowers in your landscape edging, a lush lawn design is framed for the homeowner. Color and form are two attributes which determine the position a flower may occupy to best advantage in the landscape edging, and of these, color is perhaps the most important.

A flower color which is to be observed from a distance must have carrying-power. This is dependent upon intensity and value, and to some extent upon hue. More attention can be developed in such a landscape border when flowers with a pleasing fragrance are chosen. The Purdue Perennial Doctor gardening app can help identify and manage the appropriate sweet-scented flowers for lawn edging designs. Gardeners can search for information by flower or by pest to maintain the growth of their landscape border design. The garden perennial app features assistance in managing over 150 flower problems on over 100 kinds of flowers.

    Prepare to Change the World

The Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Minnesota is situated within the College of Design one of the most comprehensive and engaged design colleges in the country. Our focus is to design sustainable, collaborative, and artful solutions to the complex challenges of the 21st century. Our Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) program expands landscape architecture into an activist practice to create innovative approaches to the pressing issues of our time, while our undergraduate degree prepares students to follow a variety of career trajectories in the public and private sectors or to go on to graduate and professional studies

Change defines our landscape—drought and flood, freeze and thaw, population explosions and declines, economic booms and crashes. As designers and managers of change, landscape architects shape more resilient futures by designing new places and systems that integrate art, ecology, and community.

Our students learn as much outside the classroom as inside the classroom and take advantage of our location in a vital design-rich urban region. Students work as Research-in-Practice Assistants in Twin Cities agencies, firms, and nonprofits like the Trust for Public Land, or as interns in firms like Oslund and Associates. Coen Partners. Damon Farber and Associates and HGA. Our students also lead design initiatives of their own making, such as Students for Design Activism and Greenlight, or in professional organizations like the student chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.

Our college also has one of the largest student-practitioner mentoring programs of any North American design school, which underscores the strong ties between the college and local practitioners many of whom teach in the department .

We invite you to visit our program and we look forward to hearing about the kind of change you want to make in the world.

    Pike Nurseries, Towne Lake

Our Towne Lake store in Woodstock, garnered two “firsts” for Pike Nurseries. It was the prototype for our “new concept” garden centers with the brick façade and brick corner “clock” tower.

It was also the first Pike store located in a shopping center venue. Located on Towne Lake Parkway, it opened in November, 1996 and serves the residents of Woodstock, Holly Springs, Canton and greater Cherokee County.

This morning I called your store from my home in Rochester, Mn. I worked with Kristin and she was very kind and helpful. I have a hearing loss and she patiently made certain that I understood all the information. She chose and planted a lovely pot of annuals as a gift from me for my niece who lives in Woodstock. Kristin even sent me two email pictures of the finished plant to see. I cannot say enough about how very professional and friendly Kristin was to work with. A big thanks to her for sharing your Georgia sunshine with me here in rainy (with snow in the forecast) Minnesota. – Donna P.

Trey was so helpful, knowledgeable and polite! Thank you. – Moley

I received wonderful help and advice from Ashleigh today. She was creative and yet very practical in her recommendations. – Mary

Christy M. gave me the most helpful and courteous and genuine service I’ve ever experienced shopping for plants. This is huge for building loyalty. – Ty

The service here is amazing. Thank you so much Betty M. and Mallory C. for all your help with selection and kindness in answering all my questions. BRAVO.
