Classes are conducted face-to-face with classroom instruction in a simulated studio environment which include practical workshops.

    Resources required

    It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland s online learning system Connect and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations.

    It is highly recommended that students have access to a CAD or Gaming quality machine. Minimum specifications can be found here. These specifications are a minimum. Ideally a minimum of Intel I7 machines or equivalent, 12GB Ram, 1Gb dedicated graphics. Windows machines are ideal as Autodesk programs are not available native to Mac (you may use a dual boot system however we will not be able to provide any support in this process and there are known glitches using this arrangement).

    Autodesk programs (Revit AutoCad) can be downloaded for free as an educational version. Adobe programs and Sketchup are available on campus however it would be beneficial to purchase a personal copy to assist completion of project work.

    Certificate IV in Interior Decoration

    Course Overview

    This course will prepare you for a range of interior design careers. Whether you want to design residential domestic interiors, retail interiors, commercial spaces or specialised rooms, this course will help you get there. Explore the use of colour; work with fabrics; research design history and use Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Adobe software to bring your ideas to life. This is a practical hands on course, allowing you to view, touch and style hard materials and soft furnishing textiles.

    You will learn invaluable skills in communication, teamwork, problem solving, in depth product knowledge and how to select appropriate products. In addition, you will learn how to interpret customer needs and desired outcomes, identify and recommend improvements and learn valuable planning and organisational skills working in a safe environment.

    You will develop an impressive portfolio of projects throughout the course, that you can use for presentation to potential employer and clients or simply just to have!

    Course Structure

    To receive this qualification you must complete 8 core units and 11 elective units. Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry and staff qualifications.     After successful completion of this course, graduates may apply for the MSF60113 Advanced Diploma of Interior Design which incorporates the the MSF50213 Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration. Students will also develop a folio of work suitable for entry to a wide variety of design programs at diploma and degree level.

    Course Overview

    In this State accredited course, students with an interest in interior decoration and design can develop knowledge and skills to work in this exciting professional field. Technical and freehand drawing skills are taught, together with Product Knowledge, Oral Communications and Art History, to prepare the students for client presentation. Both domestic and commercial projects are covered in this two year part time course.
