Demonstrate business and personal achievement through best practices

Professional Certification offers you an additional opportunity to have your leadership and communications skills confirmed

Why Pursue Professional?

Professional level Certification demonstrates to peers, clients and organization that:

  1. You have achieved the top-level Certification in your profession, only achieved by a limited number of business development professionals.
  2. You are recognized for making a significant contribution to your organization and/or the profession.
  3. You are recognized for your ability to lead and direct others in achieving broad reaching goals.
  4. You are recognized for thought leadership and “out of the box” thinking

The Professional Certification level is appropriate for senior bid and proposal managers and BD professionals with 7 or more years in the profession and are represent organizational thought leadership.

Qualifying for Professional

To earn your APMP Professional certification, qualify by making a significant impact in your own organization or in one of APMP’s business development communities. You must document and present that impact to a panel of assessors, demonstrating superior communications skills.

To earn Professional Certification you must:

  1. Be a current APMP member who has achieved APMP-Practitioner Level status
  2. Have seven years experience in a bid and proposal environment.
  3. Provide a reference that will be asked to rate you on nine behavioral and attitude based competencies in the areas of managing and motivating others to carry out required actions.
  4. Develop a Proposal Professional Impact Paper (PPIP TM ) providing evidence of how you have had a significant impact on your organization and/or the profession.
  5. Participate in a 45-minute panel interview (telephone or face-to-face) where you present and answer questions about your PPIP.

The APMP Professional Certification Format

Select a reference who knows you professionally and can rate your leadership skills on pre-defined statements related to the questionnaire.

How to Prepare Your PPIP

PPIP Presentation and Interview

After your PPIP is assessed, you may be invited to present the impact to a panel of assessors, via conference call or in person. The assessors will evaluate your communications skills against prescribed standards. After your presentation, you will be asked 4 behavioral and leadership questions, which will be provided to you in advance, with the standards for answering. After the interview, the panel will immediately prepare evaluation scores and confirm your results.

How to Select Your Impact

Your impact must represent a significant professional achievement that demonstrates you business development commitment and initiative. The impact must illustrate sustainable improvement in areas such as: customer interaction, proposal and bid management, individual or organizational development, processes or infrastructure improvement. It must represent a project where you were personally responsible and successfully demonstrated that your organization, a client’s organization or the proposal profession had a quantifiable gain.

Activities associated with your day-to-day job are not eligible for your professional impact, which must reach beyond your normal activities and assignments.

Receive Help from Professional Mentors

A Certification Mentoring Program is available to those preparing for Professional Level Certification. They will help you understand, plan, and complete your PPIP. Visit the Certification Mentoring Program for additional details.

Predictive Analytics 3: Dimension Reduction,
Clustering and Association Rules

taught by Anthony Babinec and Galit Shmueli

Data mining, the art and science of learning from data, covers a number of different procedures. In this online course, “Predictive Analytics 3 – Dimension Reduction, Clustering, and Association Rules,” you will cover key unsupervised learning techniques: association rules, principal components analysis, and clustering. Predictive Analytics 3 will include an integration of supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.

This is a hands-on course — participants in the course will have access to an Excel-based comprehensive tool for data-mining, XLMiner, the use of which will be explained in the course. Participants will apply data mining algorithms to real data, and will interpret the results.

A final project will integrate an unsupervised task with supervised methods covered in predictive Analytics 1 and 2 (though the unsupervised methods taught in the rest of the course stand on their own and can be studied without having taken those courses).

This course may be taken individually (one-off) or as part of a certificate program.

WEEK 1: Dimension Reduction

  • Detecting information overlap using domain knowledge and data summaries and charts
  • Removing or combining redundant variables and categories
  • Dealing with multi-category variables
  • Automated dimension reduction techniques
    • Principal Components Analysis (PCA)
    • Predictive algorithms with variable selection techniques

WEEK 2: Cluster Analysis

  • Popular uses of cluster analysis
  • Clustering approaches
  • Hierarchical Clustering
    • Distances between records
    • Distances between clusters
    • Dendrograms
    • Validating clusters
    • Strengths and weaknesses
  • K-Means Clustering
    • Initializing the k clusters
    • Distance of a record from a cluster
    • Within-cluster homogeneity
    • Elbow charts

WEEK 3: Association Rules

  • Discovering association rules in transaction databases
  • Support and confidence
  • The apriori algorithm
  • Shortcomings
  • Capturing associations between items
  • Generating association rules
  • The a-priori algorithm
  • Association rules vs. recommendation systems
  • Choosing non-random rules

WEEK 4: Integrating Supervised and Unsupervised Methods; Introduction to Network and Text Analytics

  • The role of unsupervised methods in predictive analytics
    • Dimension reduction of predictor space
    • Predictive models on subsets of homogeneous records
  • Advantages and weaknesses of combining unsupervised and supervised methods
  • Network analytics
  • Text analytics
  • Unsupervised methods used in network and text analytics

HOMEWORK:

Homework in this course consists of short answer questions to test concepts, and guided data analysis problems using software.

In addition to assigned readings, this course also has supplemental video lectures and an end of course data modeling project.

Predictive Analytics 3: Dimension Reduction, Clustering and Association Rules

Who Should Take This Course:
Marketers seeking to specify customer segments and identify associations among products purchased, environment scientists seeking to cluster observations, analysts who need to identify the key variables out of many, MBA’s seeking to update their knowledge of quantitative techniques, managers and scientists who want to see what data-mining can do, and anyone who wants a practical hands-on grounding in basic data-mining techniques.

You should be familiar with introductory statistics. Try these self tests to check your knowledge.

In addition, there is a lesson in the course where supervised and unsupervised learning techniques are used in combination, so, unless you do not need this portion, you should be familiar with supervised learning methods, such as those presented in Predictive Analytics 1 .

Organization of the Course:

This course takes place online at the Institute for 4 weeks. During each course week, you participate at times of your own choosing – there are no set times when you must be online. Course participants will be given access to a private discussion board. In class discussions led by the instructor, you can post questions, seek clarification, and interact with your fellow students and the instructor.

At the beginning of each week, you receive the relevant material, in addition to answers to exercises from the previous session. During the week, you are expected to go over the course materials, work through exercises, and submit answers. Discussion among participants is encouraged. The instructor will provide answers and comments, and at the end of the week, you will receive individual feedback on your homework answers.

Time Requirement :
About 15 hours per week, at times of your choosing.

Options for Credit and Recognition:
Students come to the Institute for a variety of reasons. As you begin the course, you will be asked to specify your category:

  1. No credit – You may be interested only in learning the material presented, and not be concerned with grades or a record of completion.
  2. Certificate – You may be enrolled in PASS (Programs in Analytics and Statistical Studies) that requires demonstration of proficiency in the subject, in which case your work will be assessed for a grade.
  3. CEUs and/or proof of completion – You may require a “Record of Course Completion,” along with professional development credit in the form of Continuing Education Units (CEU’s). For those successfully completing the course, CEU’s and a record of course completion will be issued by The Institute, upon request.
  4. Other options – Statistics.com Specializations. INFORMS CAP recognition. and academic (college) credit are available for some Statistics.com courses

Predictive Analytics 3: Dimension Reduction, Clustering and Association Rules has been evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE) and is recommended for the upper-division baccalaureate degree category, 2 semester hours in business analytics or data mining. Note: The decision to accept specific credit recommendations is up to each institution. More info here .

This course is also recognized by the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) as helpful preparation for the Certified Analytics Professional (CAP ® ) exam, and can help CAP ® analysts accrue Professional Development Units to maintain their certification .

This is a wonderful program for someone who has talent for decorating but wants or needs to add the validity that becoming certified offers. The C.I.D. designation and membership in the Certified Interior Decorators International organization will open doors and lets consumers know you are a professional they can trust. So. thank you Mr. Renner.

I have just finished the C.I.D. Certification Program. I have found that your section on The History of Furniture and Architectural Styles very concise and informative and exactly what I needed. The other section was Session #7, Consulting: Fees and Compensation . It cleared up so much for me on exactly what I should be charging. I cannot thank you enough for this wonderful program.

The Interior Designers Association Adelaide, South Australia (IDASA) is a dynamic collective of members who specialise in residential and commercial interior decoration and/or design services.
Members have acquired competencies through formal studies (TAFE and UniSA) and have displayed a passion and genuine desire to provide clients with a professional solution for renovations and/or new construction, heritage through to contemporary styles.

The collective s philosophy is based on the writings of Richard Saul Wurman in his text ‘Tedology’, where he proposed that Technology, Entertainment and Design can come together to promote the exchange of ideas and concepts leading to creative learning through communication in the form of discussion. Members have generally gained their knowledge and expertise from working within the industry prior to establishing their own businesses. Their know-how includes the creative use of colour, texture, finishes, fabric and furniture to create spaces to the client’s brief as well as achieving their expectations. Read more
