Maryland Interior Design Colleges and Universities

Our database currently includes Maryland colleges, universities, technical and vocational schools.

An Interior Design degree combines artistry with technical expertise and covers the mechanical aspects of architecture more than an Interior Decorating degree does. Students earn either an associate’s degree after two years of study or a bachelor’s degree after four years. Graduates have a wide range of job opportunities, depending upon the focus of their studies. Many students elect to attain a strong minor, such as computer or network technology, or complete two degrees, like Interior Design and Marketing.

Maryland offers many opportunities for employment for interior designers. This is an exciting time to enter the field because new technology has created innovative devices to improve workplaces, homes and other facilities. For example, exhibit designers have a higher employment rate because store owners need experts to design impressive display windows and show exhibits. Modern devices can increase designers’ productivity and marketability.

Career Opportunities Compensation in Maryland

Maryland has a strong job outlook for interior designers, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), and rates as fourth in the nation for the highest concentration of interior design jobs. The bureau notes that, in Maryland, the metropolitan areas near the District of Columbia, Virginia, and West Virginia have the highest rates of employment for designers. Interior designers in the state can work as independents or through a business, such as an architectural firm, a home improvement store or a furnishings store. Depending upon factors like the type of the student’s minor studies, graduates may work as a generic designer or work a specialty job, such as a set or exhibit designer.

The BLS report for Maryland states that interior designers make about $54,000 annually and set and exhibit designers make about $62,000 a year. Some of the specialty fields that increase designers’ employment rates and salaries include industrial and commercial building design, ergonomics, healthcare facility design and furniture or home furnishing wholesale merchandising. According to the BLS, the job outlook for a generic interior designer has about a 4 percent growth estimate, but the outlook for some specialty fields, such as the set and exhibit designers, has an approximate ten percent growth estimate.

Tip 1: Determine what you may like to learn or major in at college. You dont need to have an answer here – a number of 1st year students are “undeclared” — however if you do have an idea, then you will be able to search for universities that have a program that equals your pursuit.

Tip 2: Produce a group of specifications you want to use to evaluate and weed out Maryland Interior Design universities. There are heaps of possible criteria, such as degrees offered, major programs and minor programs, location, prices, size, caliber, standing, ranking, placement record, staff sizing, and others.

Tip 3: Compose a listing of possible schools and education centers. There can be stacks of resources to help you to compose a listing of potential Maryland Interior Design schools.

Tip 4: Assemble all of your info and data about each of the school you’re debating. Go to every training website and gather the necessary data.

Tip 5: Utilise the specifications from Tip 2 to trim your list of universities to a more minor group. Get the list down to a number you are comfy with.

Tip 6: Inspect the Maryland Interior Design universities on your listings from Tip 5. Generally you should inspect every Maryland Interior Design university on your short group, but if you can’t travel to it in person, get a video or get a virtual tour.

Tip 7: Apply to the schools that made the cut after the first 6 tips. Carefully fill in the applications and send them to the Maryland Interior Design colleges.

Tip 8: While you’re waiting to hear from the universities you applied to, begin to read the books or the Web to find subsidizations. There are heaps of resources to find scholarship info.

Tip 9: Make the final decision from amongst the Maryland Interior Design schools that accepted you. Certainly the most laborious choice of all. be certain to read all your notations, view the financing packages, and make your final decision!

Tip 10:Best of Luck to your College Education! We hope these tips help you find the perfect college.

Beauty Salon Home Design Photos

I love this wall cabinet, which might originally have been intended for books or CDs, but is perfect for stashing soft towels, rolled for that instant beauty salon aesthetic. Slot in a basket for cotton wool and other smaller essentials – and don’t forget that all-important Buddha statue. To keep your towels beauty spa soft, avoid fabric softener – which can have the opposite effect on towelling textiles – and try washing them with vinegar and baking soda.

A Hamptons dream home

Recently, I posted about Hamptons House, the gorgeous homewares store devoted to all things Hamptons.

This week I m posting about the ultimate real-life Hamptons inspired house, in Sydney. You ll all be familiar with this beautiful home in Bellevue Hill, that I have shown before, in particular when I ve written about interior designer Lynda Kerry who helped with the interior design. You can see the posts here and here. The images from the H G article a few years ago have featured on blogs around the world and are constantly repinned on Pinterest.

So, I was thrilled to be given a tour of this breathtaking home in person, by the lovely owner Ange. It is every bit as gorgeous as it looks, even more so in real life. A heart stopping kind of gorgeousness that makes you stop and sigh. But apart from all this, it is a warm, welcoming and very functional family home. If ever there was a real-life Something s Gotta Give house in Australia, surely this is it! It exudes a relaxed elegance that is synonymous with that part of the American east coast.

The exciting news is that home is now on the market! I know, I know, how you could they bear to part with this magnificent home, but it made me feel better about leaving mine when I saw this believe me.

So if you always wondered what the rest of the house looks like here s the tour.

The house is painted a fresh white (Antique White USA used throughout house for interior and exterior), with gloss black shutters and front door. When you walk in the front gate this elegant courtyard is on the right. The beautiful vibrant pink bougainvillea looks stunning against the white walls and black roof.

The rear of the house shows the three storeys. The bottom floor which leads onto the rear garden and pool features an expansive kids playroom, underground climate controlled cellar, home theatre room, a fully equipped music studio and bathroom. The middle floor has all the living space, kitchen, laundry etc, and the top floor all the bedrooms. The little dormers you can see at the very top in the photo below are in the kids secret loft playroom which is accessed by drop-down ladder.

The original 1930s Georgian house was reinvented and expanded by architects Lawton Hurley with elegant parterre gardens and landscaping by William Dangar.

No doubt you re familiar with this image of the pool house and made the cover of H G and which was designed to mirror the architecture and style of the house. complete with matching dormer windows. The pool house has its own bathroom and can double as a guest suite. This was the inspiration for our pool cabana, although I never got around to the making the interior quite as stylish as this. The striped rug is from West Elm .

The kitchen is perfection. Honed black granite benchtops contrast with the beautiful hand-painted white shaker style cabinets, with black butt hinges and pull handles. The blacksplash features a small white subway tile and there is a generous ceramic butler s sink. The Windsor chairs around the dining table and at the island were custom made. The bamboo blinds add a typical classic American touch, along with those striking nickel pendant lights from Restoration Hardware. The kitchen tapware is El Capitan from Nicolazzi. All other tapware from Albert Adams.

The family room below adjoins the kitchen area and is part of the main open plan living space. It is a sea of soft blues, creams, with dark timber and black accents. The pretty blue floral linen on the armchairs and cushions is called Matisse from Bennison Fabrics.. The sofas and dining nook cushions are upholstered in Linara Duck Egg by Romo. The stunning kitchen pendants are from Restoration Hardware. All other lights were imported from Limehouse Lighting. The custom timber floors are American Oak with a bevelled edge to accentuate the wide boards, and stained in a dark chocolate custom mix.

The gorgeous blue striped rug (remember the Something s Gotta Give! living room rug) was sourced by Ange from Graham Geddes Antiques in Melbourne, after a year long search. The cabinetry either side of the double fronted fireplace has timber paneling on the back and echoes the design of the kitchen. It s artfully filled with books, woven baskets, blue and white ginger jars, shells and coral.

The family uses the dining nook off the kitchen in cooler inclement weather, but mostly use the outdoor room (below). This space features its own smaller kitchen space and built-in BBQ, with cafe heaters mounted to the ceiling, and sturdy automated clear plastic shade and roller door that keep the elements out. The room can be closed off with sliding doors that fold behind the cream curtains of the family room. I love all the transom windows in this house. The architectural details are so well considered.

The library and sitting room adjoin the family room. The fireplace is utilised by both rooms, although this one features the beautiful textural stonework. The cabinetry in the home is such an asset, both for function and aesthetics. There are lots of generous sisal rugs throughout the house.

The red floral fabric on the armchairs in the library is Eversfield Toile by Stroheim with an antique red linen ticking on the armchairs in the sitting room.

This amazing travertine lined ensuite bathroom has two distinct areas a wet and a dry room. There are 8 bathrooms in the house, all similarly designed and using similar materials and finishes.

The home theatre is a great space for all the family to relax and watch TV in air-conditioned comfort. The kids playroom on the ground floor features a purpose-built mini stage for the kids to put on shows, a giant table built at kid-friendly height for craft and games complete with miniature wicker armchairs. The pink panels on the back wall are the very handy and stylish Chat Board. a Danish design. The boards are made of magnetic glass which can be drawn on like a whiteboard, but is magnetic as well. Great idea for keeping families organised too.

The family includes three young girls, who all have beautiful girly bedrooms, with lots of white timber wall paneling, stunning raked ceilings, bay windows, the prettiest wallpaper, soft furnishings and decorative accessories. Each with their own ensuite.

And of course the master bedroom is a beautifully serene sea of blue and white, the walls painted the most heavenly shade with matching striped and floral upholstery fabric.

Isn t it just perfection and wonderful inspiration. Such a lovely, warm and inviting family home, with a casual elegance and classically American. Ticks all the right boxes for me.

The house is open by appointment only through Sotheby s Realty Sydney here .

If you were thinking of getting a king-size bed, but a queen would give you more room for a dresser and sitting area, now is the time to make the call about what is most important to you. Plug your measurements into an online tool (search for “free floor plan tool”) or make a sketch on paper and play around with potential furniture arrangements. It’s much easier to move or swap out furniture on paper or onscreen than in real life — so do some virtual lifting before you plunk your money down on new stuff.

Sedge – (Carex spp) Sedges feature grasslike leaves and grow in clumps, and are noted for their wide range of growing requirements. Sedges, depending upon their variety, come in many sizes and textures, and grow in a number of different kinds of soils and in virtually every USDA hardiness zone. You can leave sedge unmowed for a taller, more meadow-like look, or mow it a few times a year to maintain more of a lawn look.

Interior design trends for summer 2014

Some of the most popular cultures that will inspire designers in 2014 are the Spanish and the Mexican ethnics as well as some African cultures. The green concept is getting more widely accepted in the worlds of fashion, architecture and in the interior design. We predict that many designers will be inspired by the green idea and will implement the elements in their projects.

One of the most interesting trends predicted for 2014 is the airy or space concept. We are not speaking Cosmic here. The trend is related to more airy environments with open spaces, less furniture in the rooms and free-feeling concepts. The main idea behind this concept is to clean the clutter. The spaces become a real vast heaven with a lot of air for breathing fulfilling. Among the most extraordinary trends is the applying of materials and fabrics in the designs that stimulate the senses of touch. This includes the using of a rich diversity of materials from silky curtains and covers to sheepskin rugs, velvet seating etc.

Interior design trends 2015

Close your eyes and imagine the most irresistible for touch fabrics in unique heavenly harmony that keeps you closer. Designers will use the touchy-feely concept to create the most unforgettable interior designs that are real delight for all senses.

One of the trends that seem that will stay here forever is the implementing of crafts in the concepts. The crafts are so different and changing so fast that the interest towards them will not decrease in the years, certainly not in 2014. The handmade crafted elements coming from different culture, vintage designs and decorations made of all kinds of materials will fill the superior interior designs of homes, offices and public places. They bring unique charisma and appeal to the place and certainty has a lot to offer to inspire designers in the near future.
