#interior design raleigh
In 2001, Heather moved to Durham, NC from New York City, where she had attended Parsons for interior design and honed her skills in NYC under the tutelage of French designer Robert Couturier. The change prompted Heather, who then opened her own firm, to fine-tune an ability to work within a variety of interior styles and settings… from French Modern to Southern Traditional. With a clientele often drawn to southern American architectural elements, but hoping for a modern flair within that context, she has happily developed an accessible, signature style which combines practicality (kids, pets, and red wine are facts of life!) with a variety of sophisticated forms and textures – plaster, hide, velvet, linen – and extraordinary lighting. Heather’s belief in organic ornamentation (that nothing made by man is as beautiful as that found in nature) helps define her spaces as living and subtly grounded. Though her project reach includes clients from Dallas to San Francisco, Heather feels that the genre emerging in her work could easily be called The Modern South. More
HGID: Local or Long Distance, it s the Process of Design
Whether decorating a home in what Heather now refers to as the Modern American South , or managing the redesign of a gut-renovation in NYC, Heather believes in talking brass tacks before trying to capture the client s thoughts on design. Establishment in advance of exactly what a client can expect to spend on my firm s service for the duration of the project, and having a solid estimate of the typical project investment, is the critical jumping-off point , says Heather. If you can dream it, we can bring it to life. But nothing ruins the relationship like a contractual misunderstanding later in the game . Heather works nationally, applying the same rigorous process to her work on a home in Dallas as she does to a restaurant down the street in Raleigh. My process is my guide. From the design study and contractor selection to the site visits and installation, the experience is consistent regardless of where we work. In this way, I know what I can promise to deliver.
