This home exudes historic facts and architectural details that are truly rare to find nowadays. It was designed in 1928 by renowned architect Gardner Dailey, the architect of Montecito s famed Coral Casino, in a Modernist-influenced Spanish Colonial Revival style for the artist Bruce Porter in May 1927. Porter occupied the house from 1929 to 1937. The house was meticulously restored and has five bedrooms and seven baths on three levels. Also, a pool house with mountain views, loggia, fireplace, ½ bath, and courtyard shower, pool, fountain, and spa. Both the pool and spa are highlighted by artisan tile, inspired by Catalina tile designs, reminiscent of the period.

I hope you enjoy this one!

Original Honduran mahogany flooring in most rooms. Amazing!

The cabinetry is custom Charlie Starbuck.

A very unexpected kitchen! I d never think of creating an ultra-modern kitchen in a house like this one. Do I like it? I like the kitchen, but I m not sure if it s the best option for this kind of house. What do you think?

Details: Bulthup kitchen with apple wood cabinets and island, Wolf range, Miele appliances, butler’s pantry, floor to ceiling glass panels, and white lacquer accents, opens up to a large, private al fresco dining courtyard with cut-out herb gardens and fruit trees.

This is my favorite place in this house! I simply love how comfortable and light this room feels. The lantern is the perfect touch for this space!

Yet another amazing room in this house. The views are breathtaking!

Another modern surprise. The cabinets are very sleek, but I d like to see something more from the era of this house. The tub is infinity and that view is almost like that too.

Who wouldn t enjoy staying in a bedroom like this?

    Large Guest Bedroom

This guest bedroom would be perfect for a teenager.

Not hard to fall in love with this place. I just wish they didn t have done a kitchen so modern, and added something more appropriate for this kind of architecture. But I guess they wanted to surprise the potential buyers. What s your opinion on this?

Guys, I just want to tell you that yesterday I completed 12 weeks being pregnant! I just want to share this with you because I feel so excited. We also have started buying some things for the baby, we already bought the crib and the stroller and some baby clothing (mostly white, light yellow and light green). I ll find out if it s a Boy or Girl only on July 5th, and I simply can t wait. Shopping will be even more fun! But honestly, more important than all of this is how I feel about this baby. It s incredible how much my love for him or her is already so strong and so pure. My kids are also so excited and they re always giving kisses to the baby on my belly. Daddy is happy too I just feel so blessed. I know that no one has a perfect life in this world, all of us have problems, but we need to start counting our blessings more than our problems and believe that we deserve all the wonderful things that come from above.

I hope you had a good weekend and had enough time to do things you enjoy. Let s all try to have an even better week, full of peace, good thoughts and happiness.

    Wishing you always the best!

I m so happy for you. I can t wait to hear what you will be having-boy or girl. The home is perfect for me. I d even keep the furniture. The modern kitchen doesn t bother me. I spend so little time there. I cook but I can t wait to get in and out.

Beautiful house post I think you are right: the kitchen IS so modern and a surprise, I don t know WHY they WOULD have wanted to surprise the buyers! But it does, kind of seem to work here; but, more importantly: YAY for you and your hubby with your 12 week mark with the baby-to-be. Oh, how exciting for you. I remember when I was pregnant with my son. When I got to that three-month mark, it was a time of joy. So, I DO know your joy and know how happy you are. I would love for you to share whether it s a boy or girl when you find out in July, BUT, I think it should be kept secret if you want it to. How about giving us some prospective names though?
Again, congrats to you and your hubby and your kids on your new baby coming into the world. And, Luciane, you are so right: we all have problems, but we should be happy and grateful for all the things we DO have in life. I try to think like that every day, I really do. So you are very wise to also think this way. Yay new baby!
    Best,
    Gloria

Hi Lucieane so glad to hear all your hews and that you are eeling fine. the house ,garden ,views and setting are winderful but i agree the kitchen is too modern and the dining room is too dull So i would have to stay in the bedroom or the fabulous pool. Love Fay xxx

    * Dear New-Mama-Again Lucianne

FIRST FOREMOST, from someone who could not HAVE children, I ( my husband) send you T*H*E warmest, most sincere CONGRATS on this most beautiful of blessings Oh, how HAPPY we are for you. (Life s good, isn t it. Smiles. )

I grew up in SO CAL, so Santa Barbara s just a tad North, but I know it quite well, and have always said I d love to live THERE, Malibu or in La Jolla three of my fave places and THIS HOUSE IS SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL, WARM N WELCOMING (altho I WOULD have to make some changes in the kitchen to be reeeeeally happy!)

We have such similar taste my favorite room is definitely the den and totally agree that the kitchen doesn t quite fit. So thrilled to hear of this important milestone with your sweet new baby can hardly wait to find out what it is!!

Congratulations. Very exciting! And on to the pst I totally agree about the kitchen. Other than that room, the house is perfect (to me anyway). The floors are absolutely gorgeous
    -Stacy

Luciane: Congratulations on the baby. I hope you are feeling well. Santa Barbara is always inspiring to me. I love to visit and ride around the country side looking at the beautiful old houses. This one is a gem, and the kitchen, well, you can get away with super modern in a kitchen or a bath, but I d prefer traditional in this case.
    Best,
    Liz

Beautiful home: it has a few contemporary elements, but still offers an overall tradtional, warm feel.

And congratulations on the baby, too!

You can t beat the location here! I like the kitchen but agree it didn t fit in this house at all with the other decor! The backyard is ideal!

So happy to hear your pregnancy is going so well!

Good morning and Happy Monday Luciane!
I m with you the kitchen seems very out of place and character in this home. I love the stepping stone path around the edges of the pool love the way the stones are spaced so the grass doesn t just fill in between the stones, but really has an artistic presence!
    Have a fabulous day
    xo Sheila

THIS PLACE IS SOOO BEAUTIFUL I WISH I COULD BE THERE RIGHT NOW..AND LIVE THERE FOREVER, LOL

Holy Smokes! What a gorgeous home. The family room is also my favorite! Light and bright and so inviting. The kitchen on the other hand seems like an odd choice for the home. Hmmm.

Happy to hear your pregnancy is going well! So excited for you!

oooooh i love that kitchen. so crisp and streamlined and minimally chic.

so happy to hear you are feeling well and so elated about the blessings that are yours. there is nothing like this miracle!

hugs for always reminding us to look up.

Love the white home with the turquoise shutters truly dreamy.

Twin sisters Jayne and Joan Michaels are fond of using unusual color combinations and textures to create bright, open spaces that incorporate European accents like a gray woven Swedish rug, Italian mid-century furnishings, and Scandinavian pottery.

    Alex Papachristidis Interiors

    300 E. 57th St. at Second Ave. Ste. 1C; 212-588-1777; alexpapachristidis.com

Papachristidis pairs unexpected colors with classic proportions, drawing on influences from his globe-trotting youth. European textiles, classical architecture, and 18th-century furnishings all provide inspiration.

    Amy Lau Design

    601 W. 26th St. nr. 11th Ave. Ste. M272; 212-645-6168; amylaudesign.com

One of New York s top designers, Lau expertly mixes modernist know-how with a love of the offbeat and eccentric. Full of color and bold art, her spirited interiors feel more curated than decorated.

    Anthony Baratta

    224 W. 29th St. nr. Seventh Ave. fifth fl.; 212-966-8892; anthonybaratta.com

Traditional with a twist is Baratta s M.O. Every room is steeped in color and pattern-on-pattern layers. He s been known to put a cobalt-blue chandelier in an otherwise classic dining room.

    Antonino Buzzetta Design

    39 W. 14th St. nr. Sixth Ave. Ste. 504; 917-971-0571; antoninobuzzetta.com

Buzzetta claims to be a traditionalist at heart, but he has a talent for using bursts of unexpected color, pattern, and texture to bring life and interest to sleek and modern spaces.

    Ashe + Leandro

    611 Broadway, nr. Houston St. Ste. 804; 212-242-3642; asheleandro.com

Designer Ariel Ashe and architect Reinaldo Leandro take a youthful but not young approach to their projects. The duo strike a collaborative rapport with clients and livens up spaces with playful pieces: a glowing LOL sign on a fireplace mantel or a neon chevron rug in the center of a living room.

    Bilhuber and Associates

    330 E. 59th St. nr. First Ave. sixth fl.; 212-308-4888; bilhuber.com

Jeffrey Bilhuber appears to be simultaneously channeling Billy Baldwin, Jean-Michel Frank, and Andy Warhol. In other words: bright, bold, big looks for clients like Anna Wintour and David Bowie.

    BNO Design

30 Vesey St. nr. Church St. Ste. 500; 212-343-9709; bnodesign.com

Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz s art pieces are as likely to come from eBay as from a tony antiques shop. He pulls together beads and Biedermeier, curves and crisp edges, with clever color choices and some humor.

    Brad Ford ID

    315 Seventh Ave. at 28th St. Ste. 16B; 212-352-9616; bradfordid.com

Ford creates mid-century-modern spaces that don t look like a time capsule from 1952. Better than most, he has clearly absorbed lessons in eclectic elegance from the designers Charles and Ray Eames.

    Brian J. McCarthy, Inc.

    140 W. 57th St. nr. Seventh Ave. Ste. 5B; 212-308-7600; bjminc.com

Look to McCarthy for a fresh take on colored walls, textural finishes, and classical structures. Unafraid to mix 18th- and 20th-century accessories, he once outfitted a dining room with a gilt-detailed custom palm-wood table, 30s chairs by Leleu, and vintage Christofle silver.

    Laptop Computer Requirements

Interior Design Laptop Computer Requirement 2014‐15

Students entering the sophomore‐level interior design courses MUST have their own PC laptop computer. Because students learn Computer Aided Drafting(CAD), 3d Modeling, Computer Rendering and Building Information Modeling (BIM) it is unlikely that a generic laptop will have the capability to successfully run these programs. In that the laptops which meet these specifications tend to be more expensive than typical laptops and because the hardware specifications change each year, it is strongly suggested that students wait until acceptance into the sophomore year to purchase their laptops.

NO MACINTOSH COMPUTERS. THE SOFTWARE WILL NOT RUN PROPERLY ON A MAC.

    PC Software

Currently, most of the software (i.e…AutoCad, Revit and 3DStudio Max) is made available for students to download free through agreements with the software companies. Adobe Creative Suites (PhotoShop, Illustrator and InDesign) will need to be purchased by students for their individual computers.

    • Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 64‐bit:
Windows 7 Enterprise, Ultimate, Professional, or Home Premium
    • Microsoft Windows 8 64‐bit:
Windows 8 Enterprise, Pro, or Windows 8
    • Microsoft Windows 8.1 64‐bit:
Windows 8.1 Enterprise, Pro, or Windows 8.1

Multi‐Core Intel Xeon . or i‐Series processor or AMD equivalent with SSE2 technology. Highest affordable CPU speed rating recommended.

Autodesk Revit software products will use multiple cores for many tasks, using up to 16 cores for near‐photorealistic rendering operations.

    8 GB RAM

    • Usually sufficient for a typical editing session for a single model up to approximately 300 MB on disk. This estimate is based on internal testing and customer reports. Individual models will vary in their use of computer resources and performance characteristics.
    • Models created in previous versions of Revit software products may require more available memory for the one‐time upgrade process.
